Blueprints for the controversial changes to Leek town centre go on display to the public in Market Square today.

The plans, including the much-talked about road alterations which are part of the Sainsbury's package - can be viewed by residents between 10am and 7pm from now until Saturday.

Council officials and scheme designers will be on hand to discuss the pland with members of the public, who can also complete feedback forms.

The plans - particularly the road alterations which will lead to the removal of the Nicholson War Memorial roundabout - have been the subject of a lengthy protest, but Councillor Andrew Hart believes that the public consultation will show residents the benefits the developments will bring to the town.

"The four-day exhibition shows that we're making good our promise to be open and transparent about the way we're working with the county council, Sainsbury's and others to improve the town centre," he said.

"This project means we will improve the street scene while creating extra capacity in the road network to allow further growth, prosperity and jobs to come to Leek, without the town centre coming to a grinding halt. This is all about protecting the past, without blocking opportunities for the future."

What do you think of the consultation? Let us know if it changes or reinforces your views on the key points of the development.

Leek will become another clone town, every shop selling the exact same thing. Go to a big store in Hanley or Derby, and you wouldn't know which city you were in, at least leek has a bit of character left at the moment.
The high street of old is doomed, and specialist shops that don't work well will be the only survivors along with food outlets.
The puppets who have allowed this to go through should be commemorated for killing Leek. Its going to happen, it was always going to happen, and the referendum was just to create the illusion that opinions matter. Leek RIP

What a very good laugh. Like everything else though, supermarkets can be a bit of a nightmare for residence, if they are not positioned correctly.

Mr Dap, I take your point Biddulph to me is a nightmare ruined, but this is happening all across the country. Salisbury's-led developments, it is like a mass takeover and I feel sure that central government is involved somewhere behind the scenes, Not one Tory MP including our own Brady have given support to the local objector groups or spoken out. There is something sinister about it all, it is happeniing from the tip of England (Penzance) through the midlands on up to the north.
That is the bigger picture, we only concern ourselves locally, what we should do is join the other towns who are fighting Sainsbury's.
