The spring show of the renowned Society of Staffordshire Artists will begin at the Nicholson Museum and Art Gallery next Monday.

Running until the end of March, the exhibition will showcase a selection of oils, watercolours and pastels exploring a wide range of subjects.

The society is approaching its 80th birthday, and has attracted some of the county's finest artists during that time.

Council leader Sybil Ralphs, who is responsible for arts development in the area, is delighted that the society have chosen the Leek venue to showcase the best of their work.

"The society has an enviable reputation for the pedigree of its members, and I'm delighted that it has chosen the Nicholson for for its spring exhibition."

She continues: "This is a real coup for us, coming just days after the unveiling of the recently-restored Venetian Scene painted in 1884 by William Wyld and now part of our collection."

The spring exhibition will run between February 27 and March 31.
