The contractor behind the new Sainsbury's store in Leek has pledged to use local companies 'where possible', as work on the site continues.

London-based Mace Group is looking to award sub-contracts for services including skip and scaffolding hire, and is also keen to hear from local builders' merchants.

The announcement has been called a 'major boost' for Leek businesses, and the council has set up a dedicated webpage detailing all the sub-contracts, and how to apply.

This can be found at www.staffmoorlands.gov.uk/sainsburysleek.

Councillor Andrew Hart, portfolio holder for regeneration, said: "This is a great opportunity for local companies and sole traders to pick up new business, and we welcome Mace's commitment to letting local firms know about and have a chance to win contracts."

The Sainsbury's projects are set for completion in November.
